Our Melbourne based manufacturing facility has continued to deliver against tight deadlines whilst following COVID-Safe protocols. Most recently, our team of engineers, welders, boilermakers and hydraulic technicians have been preparing for an upcoming mobilisation. One of our THOR (Thrust Hyperbaric Offshore Recovery) rental A-frames will be installed onto a vessel for hyperbaric rescue operations in Bass Strait. This waterway is globally renowned for being rough – even in the middle of Summer.
Preparation work has involved the design, manufacture and certification by DNV-GL of extension bases to allow the THOR A-Frame to recover a hyperbaric lifeboat over the high sides of a Platform Supply Vessel. The extension bases are 2.65m high, weigh 9.5 tonnes and the whole system including A-frame will be load tested on the vessel to 56 tonnes. This takes into account vessel motions and ensures a safe system for the recovery of personnel in the lifeboat.
